One of the most popular programs available for pre-service and early-service professionals is the online Bachelor’s of Business Administration. Designed to prepare students for working in different positions within the field, this program is the best starting point for any professional who would like to run their own business or working in the public or private sectors. But as with most educational programs, there are questions that a student must have answered before making their final decision on which school they have chosen to attend.
Online students have specific needs. They are looking for programs that offer flexible options in term of delivery method and residency requirements, affordable tuition rates, and a program that meets industry standards. And while there are still many programs that have these features and more, it can be overwhelming for a student who has to sift through all of that information. This is why we have created this ranking.
Methodology
This ranking began as a search for “online bachelor’s of business administration degrees” at the National Center for Education Statistics website. The initial list of schools included over 500 programs that fit this requirement, which then required more in-depth research. Schools were individually reviewed based on several factors. The single most important considerations were student to faculty ratio and tuition, with points awarded based on the following factors:
Average Cost of Attendance:
Based on one year of attendance at 15 hours per semester.
Under $7,500 – 3 Points
$7,500 – $15,000 – 2 Points
$15,001 and above – 1 Point
Student-to-Faculty Ratio:
10:1 or less – 3 Points
11:1 to 15:1 – 2 Points
Greater than 15:1 – 1 Point
The final 35 schools, which are listed below, were chosen based on the above factors. They are listed in descending order.

How Much Can You Earn in This Field?
The current median salary for professionals with a bachelor’s degree in business administration is $61,000. However, this salary rate will fluctuate between $40,000 to over $80,000, depending on the professional’s years of experience in the field and their specialty. It is possible, with years of experience, to make over $126,000, in this field. These amounts do not take into consideration any bonus forms of compensation such as commissions or stock shares in a company; it also does not include cost-of-living adjustments for different regions within the United States.
Since there are so many different careers that are available with a business administration degree, it is impossible to pinpoint salaries for all of them. However, pre-service professionals should keep in mind that specializations, such as marketing or human resources, may result in higher salaries, especially if the professional receives qualifications from any known professional association relating to their field. In fact, if a professional chooses business administration and would like to specialize in a particular field, it is highly advised that they complete any and all endorsements or certificates that are available to them.
What are the Various Disciplines of Business Administration?
Business administration is a general field that refers to both public sector and private sector companies that engage in business within the United States. Students in this field will generally have a strong foundation in business, management, economics, political science, law, finance, and more. Psychology and leadership skills, as the fields pertain to business, can also be found in some of the best curriculum programs in the country.
However, there are a variety of specializations or concentration areas that can be found within this general field. These include, but is not limited to, the following: public administration, marketing, public relations, accounting, and human resource management. These are sub-disciplines in their own right and will serve as the main focus within a student’s online program.
Is it Possible to Earn a Professionally Accredited Online Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration?
Yes; many online programs hold the distinction of accreditation by business accrediting bodies; the most common is the Association to Advance Business Schools and Programs and the International Accreditation Council for Business Education. Other field-specific accrediting or certifying bodies may also recognize an online business degree; the Society for Human Resource Management is a great example.
Online business administration programs were some of the first to come online when universities decided to open up their colleges to working professionals. Because of this, many schools have created programs that are in keeping with the guidelines set forth by these professional associations. In fact, many online programs hold more than one professional accreditation on top of their regional accreditation, demonstrating the academic quality and professional veracity of the program.
Since online programs are the same as on-campus programs, students will find that professionally accredited online business degrees are not that difficult to come by. If they are curious about finding a program that will help them earn a certification or qualification that meets their career goals, they are encouraged to seek more information from the school itself.
Can an Online Degree be Faster Than an On-Campus Degree?
Yes, an online degree can be faster than an on-campus degree, but this is not always the case. Students will need to take a few factors into consideration, including term length, if they study part-time or full-time, whether they have previous college credits or not, and whether additional terms are available throughout the year.
Online programs have the benefit of being able to employ various term lengths. The traditional academic term length is 16 weeks but an online term can last anywhere between four to 12 weeks in length, as well as 16 weeks. Students will find that shorter term lengths generally lead to the possibility of completing an online degree faster; however, this is informed by the student’s study status.
Students can currently study as part-time, half-time, or full-time learners. These terms refer to the course load a student takes on every term. Part-time can be as little as one course, half-time is considered to be two courses, and full-time can be four courses or above. Full-time students will graduate faster than part-time or half-time students simply because they are moving through the curriculum faster. However, in some cases, part-time study can be paired with four-week courses, making it possible for students to complete the degree in the same amount of time as a full-time student.
Something else to keep in mind is that many schools offer students the chance to transfer in college credits. This can be in the form of an associate’s degree or credits from an unrelated degree that satisfy the General Core Curriculum requirements. How many transfer credits are accepted vary by school, but students with previous college experience will want to inquire further; having just 30 credits accepted by the program means that a student will spend less time in the degree.
The final consideration is how many terms a school offers during the year. Traditional terms include the fall and spring, but as online courses become more popular, schools are also offering multiple sessions during the summer session as well as a J-term, which is a two-week term between the fall and spring terms that acts as an intensive session for students.
Finding a way to earn an undergraduate degree while working full-time used to be a bit of a challenge; however, with online education, the search is becoming much easier. Students all over the country now have the chance to choose from a variety of online programs that meet their needs. This ranking of the top value online Bachelor’s of Business Administration degrees is a great place for any student to start with when making a decision about which school is best for them and their career goals.
