In this ranking, we highlight top-value colleges in Oklahoma for bachelor’s degrees. Higher education in Oklahoma is much like that of many other Midwestern regions in that it primarily consists of small religious colleges and large state-supported public schools. However, prospective students who pay attention to details will find that many of Oklahoma’s universities offer notable and unique features. For instance, both Northeastern State University and the University of Oklahoma offer resources designed specifically for American Indian students, Oklahoma Christian University includes a personal laptop as part of its tuition, and East Central University boasts one of the nation’s only cartography programs. Methodology
Thankfully, we have done much of the work for you and organized the following ranking of 20 of the best affordable Oklahoma colleges. Using indicators related to student success, size, and affordability, we have compiled a “best value” list that we hope is useful as you begin the search of choosing a college or university. To develop our initial list of schools, we conducted a search for the colleges and universities in Oklahoma offering bachelor’s degrees using the College Navigator tool at the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). We then checked our information for accuracy and awarded points based on three categories as outlined below: tuition, student-to-faculty ratios, and graduation rates. Ties in points were broken by the lowest-tuition between the schools.
Average Cost of Attendance
The average cost of attendance is one of the most important factors to consider as you set about choosing affordable colleges in Oklahoma. However, as tempting as it is, try to avoid choosing a school just because it is the cheapest. As you compare institutions, consider cost in relation to quality, making sure that the schools in which you are interested offer your intended major as well as any extracurriculars or opportunities for hands-on learning in which you would like to participate. For the purpose of this article, we ranked tuition rates for each school based on how much an in-state student taking 15 hours per semester would pay for one full year of study as reported by NCES. We did not use out-of-state rates as a basis for awarding points, and they are provided for reference purposes only.

Student-to-Faculty Ratio
A school’s student-to-faculty ratio is a helpful indicator of its average class size. Since every student’s preferences will differ, it is important to consider your own academic background and personal priorities. In other words, are you looking for a setting such as a small private school in which you can receive increased academic support or opportunities for individualized studies, or do you prefer to blend in with others in a large state university and complete classwork without too many interactions with your peers and professors? Below, we awarded the most points to schools with the lowest student-to-faculty ratios and, therefore, the smallest classes, as stated by NCES.

Finally, we measured student success by awarding points based on each school’s graduation rate found on NCES. Although such is not a steadfast rule, in most cases, schools that report high graduation rates or a high number of students that earn their degrees are doing something right. This could be anything from offering affordable tuition rates, providing strong academic support, offering opportunities for research or internships, or employing nationally renowned or experienced faculty. On the other hand, schools with low graduation rates may be lacking in one or more of these areas, causing students to leave in the middle of their studies and earn their degree elsewhere. Therefore, we awarded the most points to schools with the highest graduation rates.
